JRC MERSEA Ocean Colour Portal

JRC MERSEA Ocean Colour Portal

Welcome to the JRC MERSEA Ocean Colour Portal from where you will have access to information, data, images and news on the MERSEA related Ocean Colour activities.

The strategic objective of MERSEA is to provide an integrated service of global and regional ocean monitoring and forecasting to intermediate users and policy makers in support of safe and efficient offshore activities, environmental management, security, and sustainable use of marine resources.

The system being developed is a key component of the Ocean and Marine services element of GMES.

The JRC Global Environment Monitoring (GEM) Unit is leading the Ocean Colour task of the Remote Sensing work package. The aim of this task is to provide unique and important information on the biological state of marine waters, thus representing within MERSEA an essential element to assess environmental issues and to foster sustainable exploitation of the marine resources. Further to this we are also developing the Ocean Colour Thematic Portal which will be the prime European repository and distributor of all Ocean Colour remote sensing satellite data.

The system to be developed will be a key component of the Ocean and Marine services element of GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security).
